Fire Fund
Since coming to the Smoky Mountain Children’s Home ten years ago, we have never asked our supporters for an emergency gift. As you know, we have the normal Christmas and Mother’s Day offerings, but I think you will agree this need is quite different.
Last fall the Smoky Mountain Children’s Home suffered a loss that few people heard about. We experienced a raging fire on our campus, and a staff house ended up being a total loss.
The amazing thing is that nine people occupied the house, but thanks be unto God, every one of them escaped the flames. No one was injured! However, the two dogs that actually woke everyone up from their sleep to alarm them…did not make it out alive. We were all elated to hear the nine family members were all safe, but the family was heart-broken to be told the pets that had saved their lives…lost their own lives from smoke inhalation.
It has taken almost a year for the insurance companies to finally provide a settlement. To be candid, the insurance check in the amount of $100,162.52 is just not enough to cover the replacement costs. Also, rather than build a single dwelling, we would like to construct two side-by-side town houses that will house two staff families. So, we are asking for all of our individual donors, churches and businesses to help us raise an additional $200,000 to complete the project.
We believe with God’s help from God’s people, this amount will be raised. Will you help us with a donation today? We would not be asking you if this was not a huge campus need. Use the donation button below to give today.
Choose the Special Project contribution option and add "Fire Fund" as a note to specify your donation for this crucial need.
May the Lord bless you for your gift!
